Ithaca
has long been considered a shopper's paradise, not for the
giant malls, or the huge discounters, but for the boutique
shops, crafters, farmer's
market, upscale clothing, antique
stores, and specialty shops. These are scattered
throughout the community with most within ten minutes of
Horizon Villages.
Not to be forgotten,
there are three malls within one mile of Horizon Villages.
Pyramid Mall,
Cayuga Mall, and Triphammer Mall all over their wares at
the intersection of Route 13 and Triphammer Road, less
than a mile from the entrance to Horizon Villages.
Numerous other
malls dot the landscape with a range of specialty and
major marketers.
The Ithaca
Commons, in downtown Ithaca, some ten minute drive
into downtown Ithaca offers a diversity of book shops,
antique stores, music shops, used book stores, ethnic
restaurants, and upscale clothing stores.
Every
Saturday morning for all but the winterest of winter
months, the Ithaca
Farmer's market serves as a focal point for community
life, and you are likely to meet old friends and make new
ones at this unique Ithaca institution. The only
requirement for items at the farmer's market is that items
must be made or grown within 30 miles of Ithaca. As
a result fresh produce is offered next to home baked
muffins, next to elegantly crafted jewelry, next to foods
from many ethnic backgrounds, next to local flowers, and
all accompanied by skilled musicians playing among the
crowd.
These shops are
supplemented by
Ithacafest and other special events which bring
together the community of crafts people in offering their
creations.
It might be a slight
exaggeration to refer to Ithaca as a shopper's paradise,
but many enjoyable hours can be spent exploring the unique
offerings of this wonderful
community. When shopping is done for the day,
visit one of Ithaca's
many quality restaurants of every stripe.
