Welcome to our Fall Newsletter

In the last few weeks, nature’s Northeast stage has put on a spectacular show of color, from bright yellows to bold reds, the leaves have transformed showing their rich and vibrant hues. People have flocked to this region to catch a glimpse of nature’s splendor. And they have stood in awe of the stunning, bright color-filled rolling hillsides.

Unfortunately, as is with every show, the season must come to an end. The curtain  of autumn's brilliance has been drawn, and the leaves are taking their brown. The once bright color-filled
leaves are taking their bow. The once bright color-filled rolling hillsides will soon become stark white… covered in snow. The stage will be set for a new showing that for some is a sight to behold and for many, an unwelcome change to the stage.

If our first snowfall, that set a record in parts of the Northeast for the most snow to have fallen during early October, is a sneak preview of what’s to come, you will be remiss to have not taken in the show.

May each of you have a very safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday. Spend it with those you love and appreciate and give thanks for all of life’s blessings.

 Happy Thanksgiving!

Katie

          Winter Maintenance
Although we will be continuing to work outside as long as the weather permits we are already planning our winter maintenance schedule. If you have any items that you have been meaning to bring to our attention this would be the time to let us know and we will be happy to put them on the winter schedule and attend to them for you.

Please call the office at 257-6059 to have any work requests put into our winter schedule.

Gas Fireplaces
If fall’s temperatures are any indication of what winter has in store, you might be daydreaming of tossing a log in the fireplace and warming those toes of yours in front of a toasty fire.
Unfortunately, a wood-burning fireplace requires a lot of work. First you must get the fire started. Once it’s started you have to keep it going. And then there’s the clean up factor. Both instances keep some from taking advantage of its benefits. With a gas fireplace there is nothing to
maintain or clean up.

Just turn it on with the remote control and you’ll be warming those toes in no time. If you would like to have your wood-burning fireplace converted to a gas fireplace you can contact Stan for information or a quote. You may leave a message at the maintenance office 257-5608 or call Stan directly 257-4892.

Waste Disposal
If you have an old dehumidifier or any items containing Freon that need to be properly disposed of, please let us know and we will dispose of them for a standard fee of $20
imposed by Tompkins County Solid Waste Management
Division.

Horizon Villages has two hydraulic lift chairs available for use by Horizon Villages Residents.

If you are recovering from an injury or in need of daily assistance in getting up may request one of these chairs to be brought to your home for your use.

Horizons Women’s Social Club

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is on our heels! We can all relate to the lack of time to accomplish the many duties that are required of us to make it through this time of year. There never seems to be enough hours in the day on a regular basis let alone during the holidays. And, since it is the busiest time of year for many of us, we have decided to postpone the next coffee until January 25th, 2010. The new winter hours for the coffees will be 2:45 pm to 4:00 pm.

Virginia Rinker has volunteered to host January’s coffee. However, we have yet to lock anyone into hosting the months following January. So, if you are interested in hosting a winter or an early spring month please let us know. Otherwise, we will be forced to cancel the meetings for any month that has not been reserved.
